Suryakumar Yadav - (Source : AFP)
In a significant development, the ICC has rejected Suryakumar Yadav's plea and has found him guilty of breaching the codes and conduct of play. Notably, the India skipper was under the scanner after the PCB had lodged an official complaint against the 35-year-old for his post-match comments on September 14.
After India's win against Pakistan in the group stage, Surya dedicated the win to the Indian armed forces and gave a special shout-out to Operation Sindoor. His statements didn't go well with PCB, and during the ICC hearing on Thursday, September 25, the Indian captain pleaded non-guilty for his actions.
ICC Rejects SKY's Not Guilty Plea
However, in the latest events, according to a report from ESPN Cricinfo, it is stated that the match referee, Richie Richardson, has rejected Surya's non-guilty plea. Further, the match referee has imposed a 30% match fee sanction for the 35-year-old.
SKY has been found guilty of breaching level 1 of the code of conduct. Further, it is to be known whether the BCCI would challenge the verdict by the ICC.
Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan's Action Also Punished
Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan, too, were reprimanded by the ICC as the match referee called the Pakistan stars for their hearing. Rauf was found guilty of the plane crash gesture and also for abusing Sanju Samson after the dismissal.
Thus, Haris Rauf has also been fined 30% of his match fees. Meanwhile, the ICC has let off Sahibzada Farhan with just a warning, as the right-handed batter cited examples of past cricketers who have copied similar celebrations and stated that his celebration was misinterpreted, and it is cultural for him as his people make such celebrations in weddings.
