As the Asia Cup 2025 final approaches this Sunday (September 28, 2025), cricket fans have seen some unexpected and humorous advice from one of the legendary former fast bowlers, Shoaib Akhtar. During a recent chat show called "Game On Hai," Akhtar, while discussing Pakistan’s strategy to tackle India’s formidable batting lineup, made an slip of tongue.
Shoaib Akhtar Mixes Up Bollywood Star With Abhishek Sharma
He urged Pakistan to "get Abhishek Bachchan out early," unintentionally mixing up the name of star player Abhishek Sharma with the famous Bollywood actor- Abhishek Bachchan.
The mix-up drew smiles and laughter from the panelists. He further stated and also emphasised the importance of removing Abhishek Sharma early to unsettle India’s middle order, which has been somewhat inconsistent in the competition.
“If Pakistan get Abhishek Bachchan [Sharma] out early on, hypothetically speaking, then what’s going to happen with the middle order? Their middle-order hasn’t performed,” he said.
It is important to note that Abhishek Sharma has been a player to watch out for India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. The SRH batter has amassed 248 runs across five innings at an eye-catching strike rate of 206.67. He has also registered two half-centuries, including a top score of 75 against Bangladesh.
Why Is Abhishek A Crucial Player For India In Final?
Abhishek Sharma is a crucial player for India in the final. One aspect that needs to be highlighted is India's weakness in the middle order. If Abhishek Sharma fails to provide a much-needed start at the top order, India might face a tough challenge in the middle order, as their middle-order players have not contributed much.
Another talking point is that this will be the third and final meeting between India and Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup. It is worth noting that India has won both previous encounters in a one-sided affair against the 'Men in Green'. The First match between the two teams was played on September 14, where India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets.
The second match between the rivals (Super 4s) was played on September 21, in which India defeated Pakistan by six wickets.India will next face Sri Lanka on September 26 in the last Super 4 match.
