Akash Chopra named Rajasthan Royals' (RR) ace opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler as the No.1 top-order pairing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) right now. 

The former India opener lauded the two players for their great belligerence and consistency as well as the impact on Royals' fortunes in the toughest domestic T20 competition. 

The Buttler-Jaiswal opening pair has been on the rise ever since the rising young Indian opener joined his extravagant England teammate and together started dominating attacks for the Royals, laying the perfect foundation for the team's middle-order, including the explosive skipper Sanju Samson, rally on their wave. 

While Buttler has hammered 1,255 runs at an average of 43.3 with a strike rate surpassing 145 in the last two editions of the IPL, Jaiswal's tally of 883 runs has been achieved at an even better rate of 153.3 while still averaging upwards of 40. 

No other opening combination has dominated the bowling to such an extent in the recent years of the IPL. 


Chopra Lauds Buttler-Jaiswal Opening Combo

Chopra also backed Jaiswal to continue his rich vein of form during the IPL 2024 and produce another bumper-scoring campaign for his franchise as the inaugural champions seek an end to their longstanding trophy jinx and bag their second IPL title. 

"I feel Rajasthan’s opening combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler is amazing. It could actually be ranked No. 1. I am saying that firstly because of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s current form. It means his 600-plus IPL season is almost loading," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. 

Chopra further picked Chennai Super Kings' consistent top-order pairing of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway as the second-best opening combination in the list for their great influence on the fortunes of the five-time champions.
