England batter Harry Brook's decision to withdraw from the 2025 IPL season, shortly after being signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore, proved controversial. The move, attributed to a desire to focus on national team commitments, resulted in a two-year ban from the tournament.
Harry Brook used the period to score runs against Zimbabwe and the West Indies. His form continued with a crucial 99 in England's first Test victory against India. However, Brook opened up on the 'IPL decision' marking it as an 'incredibly difficult' one.
Harry Brook Rues IPL Miss Yet Prioritises England
On opting out of the IPL, Brook stated, that he missed the grand stage encompassed by such magnificent crowds and world-class players.
“It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It’s tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties,” Brook said in a media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network and as quoted by The Hindu.
Earlier, in April, Brook admitted that IPL's two-year ban rule for withdrawing is indeed a 'fair-play'.
"They haven’t told me. But if I do get banned, fair play. That’s the rules they put in place, but I’m completely committed to playing cricket for England," Brook said as quoted by The Hindustan Times.
Brook Focuses On Edgbaston Test
Nevertheless, looking ahead to the second Test starting at Edgbaston on Wednesday, Brook suggested spin could become a factor later in the match.
“Historically, the Edgbaston pitch can be flatter. There is probably more in it for spinners. Otherwise, it is generally a typical English pitch. If there is any spin - and I’m completely guessing here - it will probably be late on days three, four and five,” Brook said.
Notably, after their first win, England will march in with confidence for the second Test which starts on July 2. With India pumped up to level the advantage, the Edgbaston Test promises to be a Test thriller for enthusiasts.
