India, who have been largely dominant for the best part of the last decade in Test cricket, have been mocked by former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga. India, who lost their 12-year winning streak at home to New Zealand in 2024, were a force to reckon with in red-ball cricket.

Ranatunga Believes India Would Have Lost Against His Side

The strong Indian side, who have dominated at home since 2012, did not lose a series to any side until New Zealand whitewashed them in 2024. Majorly led by skipper Virat Kohli and supported by MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, India were a dominant force in the world during the best part of the last decade, as no side were able to get past them, especially in subcontinent conditions.

However, former Sri Lankan 1996 World Cup-winning skipper Arjuna Ranatunga believes his side could have easily beaten India at home. Ranatunga, who has been an open critic of the BCCI and Indian cricket, is again in the news for his controversial remarks.

According to him, his premium pacer Chaminda Vaas, alongside leg spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, would have rocked the Indian side by not just beating but demolishing them at their home. Moreover, he believes India would not have been able to survive even three days against them.

"With bowlers like (Chaminda) Vaas and Murali (Muttiah Muralitharan), that team of mine would have beaten India in India in three days."

Ranatunga And Sri Lanka's Record Vs India

As for the record, Arjuna Ranatunga has led Sri Lanka against India in seven matches and has been unsuccessful in all of them, as they drew three games and lost four. Additionally, the four defeats that came against India were all by a significant margin of an innings defeat, while three of them came in a whitewash during the 1994 tour.

To the unversed, since 1982, when Sri Lanka first toured India, they have not even beaten India once at home, playing a total of 22 Test matches as they have 13 defeats and nine draws to their name. The last time Sri Lanka visited India in 2022, they had to face a 2-0 whitewash.

Talking about Sri Lanka, they recently had to endure a 2-0 whitewash against the visiting Australian side, who dominated both Tests played at Galle.
