Dwayne Bravo is not one to bite his tongue and he has come out swinging. The former West Indies all-rounder has ripped into Cricket West Indies (CWI) after they shockingly sacked Rovman Powell as the T20I captain and handed the baton to Shai Hope.
Dwayne Bravo Tears Into CWI for Dropping Powell Without Justification
Bravo called it what many fans are thinking “one of the worst decisions ever.” It is worth mentioning that Rovman Powell didn’t drop the ball.
Since taking over in May 2023, he led the Windies to T20I series wins against heavyweights like India, England and South Africa. The rankings reflect that too as he took the team from 9th to 3rd. So, naturally, Bravo wasn’t pleased.
Taking to Instagram, Dwayne Bravo didn’t hold back:
“@windiescricket once again you guys prove to the people of the Caribbean and the cricket world that the injustices towards players continues!”
Bravo, now KKR’s bowling coach and mentor in the IPL, backed Powell hard, saying his leadership laid a strong foundation. But he feels the board just tossed that aside without reason.
“As a former player and a fan of WI cricket, this is easily one of the worst decisions ever. @ravipowell52 taking over captaincy when our T20 team was in 9th spot and was able to move up to 3rd sport in the rankings and this is how you guys repay him. The bad treatment towards players… when would it stop? This is so sad on all levels… make it make sense,” Bravo wrote.
CWI and Darren Sammy Defend The Decision
Meanwhile, CWI and head coach Daren Sammy claimed the change is part of a “progressive shift.” They believe Shai Hope’s analytical brain and recent success in ODIs make him the right man for the job.
But for Bravo, none of that holds water. His frustration echoes what many fans feel that Powell deserved better. And once again, West Indies cricket finds itself in the middle of a storm, one that might have been avoided.
