India started their Asia Cup 2025 campaign in style, thrashing the UAE by nine wickets in Dubai on Wednesday. Captain Suryakumar Yadav particularly praised Abhishek Sharma for his fiery start that sealed a win in just 4.3 overs.
The UAE had no answers against India’s bowling attack. Kuldeep Yadav spun a web around their batting line-up, claiming 4 wickets, and Shivam Dube contributed 3 dismissals.
The home side were dismissed cheaply, scoring only 58 runs on the board. In response, India came out firing all cylinders.
SKY In Awe Of Abhishek Sharma’s Intent
Starting the innings, Abhishek Sharma gave no time to the UAE bowlers to settle down. He crushed 30 runs off only 16 balls with 2 boundaries and 3 mighty sixes.
His aggressive intent made the chase a walk in the park, as India wrapped up the target in only 4.3 overs. Meanwhile, captain Suryakumar Yadav was full of praise for the young opener during the post-match presentation.
Yadav referred to him as a phenomenal batter who gained No.1 ranking in ICC’s T20I tally for all the right reasons.
"He is a phenomenal batter and that's the reason why he is the World Number 1 batter in this format. The way he sets the tone in the powerplay. He keeps the team first whether it's chasing a big total or a small one," Yadav said.
Suryakumar further noted that many players had already been in Dubai for the Champions Trophy, which helped them adapt quickly to the conditions.
The victory was not just about numbers on the scoreboard but also about intent. India showed why they are among the favourites to lift the trophy once again. With Kuldeep’s spin magic, the pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Shivam Dube, and Abhishek’s explosive batting, the team looked well-balanced and ruthless.
Suryakumar Excited To Face Pakistan In Asia Cup
Now, all eyes will turn to the high-voltage clash on September 14, when India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in Dubai. Captain Suryakumar Yadav said he is excited to face the men in green and deemed them as ‘good opponents’.
"I mean, we all are excited for the game on Sunday as we wanted to face a good opponent," he added.
Despite severe pushback from the fans, the India-Pakistan clash is expected to go on as planned in Dubai.
