Sony Sports have irked Indian fans after they brought former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram as an expert for the Asia Cup 2025 coverage panel. His presence on screen has left fans fuming on social media.

The Asia Cup 2025 has attracted negative criticism over the India-Pakistan clash, especially after the Pahalgam terrorist attack that left 26 tourists dead in Kashmir.

Fans have been calling for a boycott of the Pakistan team and its players, but BCCI confirmed participation in the Asia Cup clash, citing geopolitical reasons.

Fans Lash Out After Wasim Akram Seen On Asia Cup Panel

In the midst of this chaos, former legendary Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram was seen as an expert guest on Sony Sports’ pre-match show for the 2025 Asia Cup.

He was accompanied by Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa and host Sanjana Ganesan. Akram’s presence on Indian broadcast channels left fans angry on social media.

Many criticised Sony Sports for double standards and even called them insensitive for hurting public sentiments by not boycotting Wasim Akram.

Notably, India will face Pakistan on September 12, and Akram is expected to be a part of the expert panel. However, given the pushback from fans, pressure on Sony Sports will only increase from here.

It's also important to note that Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav maintained his distance from Pakistan captain Salman Agha during the pre-tournament press conference.

However, on September 12, both teams could be seen shaking hands and competing on the field, as a last-minute boycott or withdrawal is more or less unlikely.
