'Won't Say Rohit Isn't Concentrating...' - Ex-Opener On IND Captain's Recent Low Scores

Life would've been slightly easier in the middle for India's in-transition and understrength batting unit in the Test series against England if skipper and veteran opening batter Rohit Sharma had made big scores.

While still in decent touch and form, Rohit has failed to play a substantial knock in his four innings of the series so far in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

The experienced right-hander's failure to convert starts worth 24 and 39 in Hyderabad allowed England to attain ascendancy and even though he led India to a comeback win in Vizag, his knocks of 14 and 13 reinforced the story of a player underperforming.

Chopra On Rohit's Low Scores

Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes it's not as if Rohit isn't concentrating enough, he just hasn't batted long to post a major hundred. Chopra reckons if Rohit batted a whole day, he would put England's inexperienced spin attack under great pressure and allow the rest of India's batters to ease into their roles.

"I won’t say that he isn’t concentrating on scoring runs. This is not his first series as captain. He has done well as a captain before," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. "This is also true that the way he has been dismissed, those shots could have been avoided. Like in the first match where he looked to attack Jack Leach, that was an ordinary shot."

Rohit would be aware that his failure to convert starts into something truly substantial had allowed England to pile on the threat and pressure on youngsters in the Indian camp. The skipper will enter Rajkot ahead of the third Test determined to regain his prolific ways as India strive to rally on the momentum of their victory in Vizag.
