Rohit Sharma reinforced his idea and philosophy as India's captain and said one of the key attributes of a strong leader is to "instill confidence in players" and make them feel they are valued within the dressing room.

The Indian skipper and experienced opener was speaking on captaincy during an event and emphasized why his role as captain is tough since it involves multiple facets, including strategising for on and off field development of the side and indulging in one-on-one conversations with players.

"As a leader, it's crucial to instill confidence in players and make them feel valued regardless of their role in the team," Rohit was quoted as saying by Times of India. "Each player's contribution is essential to the team's success, whether they play ten balls at No. 6 or 7."

Personal Engagement With Players Key As Captain - Rohit

Rohit underlined the importance of dialogue and clear discussions with players as a key aspect of captaining the Indian cricket team and reiterated why it is crucial for each player to feel equal when he walks into the set-up and is tasked with the on-field responsibilities.

"I make it a point to interact with players individually, understand their concerns, and provide reassurance. Building trust and confidence is paramount, especially in challenging situations."

"Confidence stems from rigorous preparation and mastering skills. I thrive on the challenge of starting innings in adverse conditions and rely on extensive training to bolster my self-belief," he added.

Rohit had been invited for the event for 'Leo1, Mastercard & NSDL' amidst the break between the second and the third Test against England. The Indian captain is currently rejuvenating alongside his players after two challenging Tests in Hyderabad and Vizag and will resume training in the next 48 hours ahead of the Rajkot Test, starting February 15.
