Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad believes that Tristan Stubbs, South Africa's emerging power hitter, has the potential to establish himself as an iconic finisher akin to the legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni.

Despite doubts surrounding Stubbs' abilities following a lackluster performance last year, all eyes were on him as he sought to regain form in the SA20 League 2024. However, he quickly silenced critics by showcasing his mettle for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Stubbs rose to the occasion, demonstrating why he is highly regarded in South Africa. Representing Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the wicketkeeper-batter amassed 301 runs in nine innings, boasting an impressive average of 60 and a strike rate of 168.

Broad praised Stubbs for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament, suggesting that the young talent possesses the qualities needed to emulate Dhoni's finishing abilities.

"Tristan Stubbs can be an iconic finisher like MS Dhoni," said Stuart Broad whole speaking to the official broadcasters of the SA20 2024.

Such high praise elevates Stubbs' status in the cricketing arena, as Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest finishers in the sport's history.

Led by Aiden Markram, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape managed to defend their title with a resounding victory over the Durban Super Giants in the final. The match, held at Newlands, Cape Town on Saturday, February 10, saw the Sunrisers emerge victorious by 89 runs.

Opting to bat first, the Sunrisers posted a formidable total of 204/3 on the scoreboard. Opening batsman Jordan Hermann provided a flying start with a brisk 42 runs off 26 balls. Tom Abell contributed 55 runs off 34 deliveries, while Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 56 runs from 30 balls. Skipper Aiden Markram added a breezy 42 runs off 26 balls to consolidate their innings.

In response, the Super Giants faced early setbacks, stumbling to 7/3 within a short span. Although Dwaine Pretorius (28) and Wiaan Mulder (38) offered some resistance, it proved insufficient. The team was eventually dismissed for 115 runs in just 17 overs.

Marco Jansen shone with the ball for the Sunrisers, claiming five wickets. Daniel Worrall and Ottniel Baartman also contributed with two wickets each.

Following his stellar performance in the SA20 League, Stubbs will aim to carry his form into the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in the West Indies and USA in June. The dashing right-handed batter will be keen to replicate his performance on the international stage.
