Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh is contemplating making a debut in politics ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in 2024. The cricketer, known for his key role in India's triumphs at the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, may kickstart his political journey by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contesting from the Gurdaspur constituency.

Yuvraj, aged 42, retired from international cricket in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable achievements. In Tests, he played 40 matches, securing 1900 runs and 9 wickets, while in ODIs, he featured in 304 matches, amassing 8,701 runs and taking 111 wickets. His contribution in T20Is includes 58 matches, where he scored 1177 runs and claimed 28 wickets, showcasing his dominance as an all-rounder. Additionally, he has played 132 IPL matches.

The news of Yuvraj's potential political debut gained traction after a meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, sparking rumours of him contesting from Gurdaspur, currently held by Bollywood actor and BJP MP Sunny Deol. Yuvraj's father, Yograj Singh, has also expressed his intent to enter politics by contesting from the Anandpur Sahib constituency.

While Yuvraj has not officially confirmed his political aspirations, speculations suggest he might follow in the footsteps of former cricketers like Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh, who have ventured into politics successfully. Gambhir is a BJP MP from East Delhi, while Harbhajan represents the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab.
