South Africans launched 15 sixes against New Zealand to surge to 357-4 in their recent World Cup 2023 standoff in Pune. Centurions Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen bludgeoned eight sixes between them while David Miller blasted four maximums during his death overs thunder.

Notably, the successive sixes Miller smoked in the 46th over of the South African innings, not only took them past the 300-run mark, but also soared them above 2019 World Cup winners England for an all-time batting record.

South Africa goes past England for this world record

Temba Bavuma’s South African bunch, currently placed among the top two sides on the World Cup 2023 points table, has racked up five 300-plus totals from just their first seven matches of the tournament. As one can expect from South Africa’s star-studded line-up, the Proteas batters did so with much flair, smoking 82 sixes in the competition from their seven initial innings.

Notably, through the course of their six-hitting frenzy against New Zealand, South Africa catapulted themselves from 67 sixes to 82 in a space of an afternoon to go past England’s 2019 tally for most sixes in a single edition of a World Cup event.

England, having won the title in 2019 at home, belted 76 sixes throughout their 11-match victorious run. South Africans, on the other hand, eclipsed the Englishmen in just their seventh match of the 2023 edition.
