Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) vice-captain Jitesh Sharma is still in the dark about his place in the team for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. With the franchise yet to communicate any decision, Sharma is left waiting to know if he will be retained. All teams must submit their retention list by October 31 ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Jitesh, who played an essential leadership role in IPL 2024, isn’t sure about his future with PBKS.

Speaking to the Times of India, he shared, “Let’s see. If I am in their plans, they will retain me; otherwise, they won’t because I have not received any communication yet from Punjab Kings.”

The mega auction, which is expected to be held overseas, will take place in late November or early December 2024. Jitesh Sharma joined PBKS ahead of IPL 2022 for ₹20 lakhs. Over the years, he has taken on several key roles, including captaining the team during Shikhar Dhawan’s absence. He later became the deputy to England’s Sam Curran.

However, with Punjab Kings looking to hit the “restart button” for IPL 2025, it’s unclear whether Jitesh will continue to be part of their plans.

MI and CSK On Jitesh Sharma’s Radar

When asked where he’d like to play if PBKS doesn’t retain him, Jitesh didn’t hesitate. “I’d love to join Mumbai Indians (MI) or Chennai Super Kings (CSK),” he revealed. Having grown up in Maharashtra, Jitesh has a sentimental attachment to Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium

“I’ve watched matches there since I was young and always wanted to play inside that stadium,” he shared.

MS Dhoni, often referred to as “Mahi bhai,” is Jitesh’s idol, which naturally makes CSK an appealing option. Another reason is his friendship with Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK’s captain.

“Playing under Ruturaj would be fun, just like I enjoy playing under Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav),” Jitesh said.

With PBKS’ silence casting doubts over his future, Jitesh Sharma’s potential move to MI or CSK could offer him new opportunities, whether for personal fulfillment or career growth.
