Abdul Samad has etched his name in cricket history by becoming the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to score twin centuries in the prestigious Ranji Trophy. On October 21, 2024, the young middle-order batter achieved this remarkable feat during a match against Odisha, showcasing his grit and talent on a challenging stage.

In the first innings, Samad displayed great determination, scoring 127 runs despite minimal support from the other end. His efforts took J&K’s total to 270 runs, but Odisha managed a slender two-run lead, courtesy of Govinda Poddar’s unbeaten 133. Even though the team missed out on a first-innings advantage, Samad’s knock gave J&K the hope of a strong comeback.

J&K’s second innings began on a positive note, with openers Shubham Khajuria and Shubham Pundir contributing 43 and 40 runs, respectively. Batting at number four, Samad once again led from the front with an unbeaten 108 off 108 balls. His aggressive approach gave the team momentum, allowing them to declare at 270/7 and set a target of 269 for Odisha.

J&K’s bowlers rose to the occasion, reducing Odisha to 14/3 in their second innings. Abid Mushtaq starred with two wickets in the morning session, while Sahil Lotra and Yudhvir Singh Charak, who had previously trained with the Indian squad, also made vital contributions. J&K now stands on the verge of an important win as they aim to bowl out Odisha on the final day.

Abdul Samad’s Journey To Success

Abdul Samad’s journey from Jammu to professional cricket has been inspiring. He became the second J&K player, after Parvez Rasool, to play in the IPL, joining Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2020. In 24 First-Class matches so far, Samad has amassed 1240 runs with four centuries and six half-centuries, proving himself as a dependable player.
