South Australia is playing against Queensland in the fifth match of the Sheffield Shield 2024. The match is poised at a delicate position as South Australia are leading by six runs with nine wickets in hand in the third innings of the game.
Henry Hunt led the batting of South Australia
While batting first in the match, South Australia posted 314 on the board. Henry Hunt led the batting, scoring a resilient and gutsy 136 off 314 deliveries. Tom Whitney was the pick of the bowlers, with five wickets for 57 runs in his 19 overs.
Queensland were put in early trouble as Nathan McAndrew picked up two early wickets. The two wickets that fell were off Usman Khwaja and Jack Clayton.
Khawaja was dismissed for a duck by McAndrew
McAndrew got the better of the Australian opener Khawaja with a full delivery at the middle stump line. Khawaja was trying to flick the ball but missed it and was wrapped on the pads. As the bowler appealed for the leg, the umpire raised the finger and ended the southpaw's stay in the middle.
With the important Border Gavaskar Trophy against India coming up, Australia hopes its top-order batters stay in touch. Khawaja's show might be a concern for Australian management. However, Khawaja will get enough time and practice to return to his groove before the all-important series.
Coming back to the match, Queensland recovered well, even after the early shocks. Jimmy Peirson scored a brilliant 94 and played a crucial role in taking the team to 308 runs.
At the time of writing, South Australia had lost one wicket in their second innings and had a run on the board.
