Rain played a spoilsport on day 1 of the one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida. Despite no rain on matchday, the play could not commence because of the poor drainage system and wet outfield.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan management and the players are unhappy with the facilities provided in Noida, and one of the members, speaking to Sportstak, stated that they would never play again in Noida and would prefer Lucknow.

“There are no facilities. We will never come here again. Our preference will be Lucknow. There are no basic facilities. There is complete mismanagement at the venue. Even the players are not happy with good, training facilities and everything,” Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) official told Sports Tak.

Afghanistan's History Of Playing Test Cricket In India

It is not the first time that the Afghanistan have played a game at the Greater Noida Stadium, they last played at this venue in 2020. Notably, The BCCI has allotted Greater Noida and Kanpur as the two home stadiums for Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the BCCI signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2015, allowing Afghanistan to use the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex as their home ground. Over the years, Afghanistan has also played their 'home' matches in Dehradun, the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, and Greater Noida.

Hashmatullah Shahidi Talks About Having A Dedicated Home In India

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi recently talked about having a dedicated home venue in India to further train and groom their players. He said:

"India is our home, and when we host teams, other nations have played more cricket. Hopefully, we will get a good venue here in India, and if we restrict ourselves to one venue, it will be effective for us. Hopefully, the ACB and the BCCI will get us a good venue."

Afghanistan recently also announced hosting South Africa and New Zealand on their home soil for the first time in history.
