Delhi Capitals (DC) co-owner Parth Jindal released a statement following the retention deadline to shed light on the team’s mega auction plan. DC retained 4 players, including 1 uncapped and will head into IPL 2025 auction with INR 73 crore and 2 RTM cards.

DC’s retention list confirmed at the October 31 deadline was shocking for the fans as they released captain Rishabh Pant to retain Axar Patel (INR 16.5 crore), Kuldeep Yadav (INR 13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (10 crore) and Abhishek Porel (INR 4 crore).

Pant had extensive discussions with both the GMR and Jindal groups before the deadline. However, both parties couldn’t reach an agreement due to differences in salary and captaincy issues. Hence, DC were forced to make the bold move and allow Pant to enter the mega auction.

DC co-owner confident ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

That being said, Parth Jindal, co-owner of DC, revealed to Crictracker that he is satisfied with the retention as in Axar, Kuldeep and Porel, they struck the balance between experience and youth. While DC would have loved to retain more players, the restrictions forced them to take a strategic call.

“In Axar, Kuldeep, Tristan and Abishek, we have the ideal blend of experience and youth, and I am very pleased with our retentions. I would have liked to retain more players who have turned out for DC, but the rules mean we have to pick strategically. Going into the auction we will have two RTM cards and that leaves the door open for players who have worn the DC shirt in the past, to carry on with us,” Jindal said.

Jindal added that for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals will use the 2 RTM cards to buy back some if not all players. The management already has a couple of names in mind and will make every effort to execute the same on the auction table. Notably, DC are left with INR 73 crore to spend on auction with 2 RTM cards.

“We know who we want and will make sure to get some if not all the players back. With this important milestone behind us, the team is working tirelessly on the mega auction. Our intent is to build a strong and balanced squad that can bring home a much-awaited IPL trophy to our city,” he added.

DC plans to replace Pant with Shreyas Iyer

With Rishabh Pant out of the setup, Delhi Capitals are reportedly mulling to buy Shreyas Iyer in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Iyer led KKR to title victory in IPL 2024 but was surprisingly released. He previously led DC before Pant took over and remains an ideal captaincy choice. Hence, DC appears hell-bent on getting Iyer for any given price.
