Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir reflects on his heated exchange with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, noting he's put the incident behind him.

During a conversation on the ANI Podcast, Smita Prakash, Gautam Gambhir stressed the need for the media to stop showing his feud with Shahid Afridi before every India vs Pakistan match, suggesting a shift towards positive coverage.

Here’s what Gautam Gambhir said

“When there's a match between India and Pakistan why do they always show my fight with Shahid Afridi, there are so many other fights that have happened. Show something positive. Show when India has won the Asia Cup against Pakistan.”

Following their well-known clash during the 2007 India-Pakistan ODI, Gambhir and Afridi have maintained a strained relationship, frequently engaging in disagreements after retiring from international cricket.

Gautam Gambhir went off on the media, calling them out for always chasing TRPs and neglecting the good stuff, which he thinks isn't great for Team India. He threw a shout-out to broadcasters, asking them to play highlights of India beating Pakistan before the big matches.

“At the end, it's a game of numbers, right? In the end, how much traction you're getting on social media, it's not all about TRP. If you keep showing one thing then it gets negative. There are many other positive things to show as well, India has defeated Pakistan in many important matches.”

'If you don't have to move on, I am absolutely fine with it' - Gautam Gambhir

Opening up about his spat with Shahid Afridi, the ex-cricketer turned politician asserted he moved on a while ago. He further added that he could not control the broadcasters, what he could do is win all games and be passionate towards his team.

“If you don't have to move on then absolutely fine with it, because I have moved on a long back. How can I control what a broadcaster wants to show this is not in my hands. What is in my hand is to win all the games and be passionate about it and be accountable of true to the franchise or team that I am representing.”

Earlier this year, Gambhir and Afridi had shared a handshake during their match in Legends League Cricket in Doha. Gambhir was the captain of India Maharajas, while the former Pakistan all-rounder led Asia Lions.

Later in the match, Afridi was also seen checking on Gambhir after he suffered a blow while batting.
