Delhi Capitals secured the services of Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland, outbidding Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League 2024 auction held in Mumbai.

To outshine fierce bidding from Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals invested INR 2 crore in the all-rounder, making her their first acquisition at the auction.

She was with Gujarat Giants in the inaugural season of the Women's Premier League. However, she played only four matches, scoring 48 runs and picking three wickets and was released ahead of the auction.

Sutherland looked in great touch in the recently concluded Women's Big Bash League. The Australian all-rounder, playing for the Melbourne Stars, picked 23 wickets and scored 288 runs.

Delhi Capitals entered the auction with the second-lowest purse and three available slots as they had retained the most number of players – 15 – after their stellar performance in the inaugural WPL.

Notably, the Meg Lanning-led side made it to the final of the WPL 2023, where they lost to Mumbai Indians. Delhi Capitals are now left with just INR 25 Lakh in their purse.
