The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, has shared an injury update regarding Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, expressing confidence in his fitness for the upcoming Afghanistan T20I series.

An ankle injury forced Hardik Pandya out of the World Cup 2023 after the clash against Bangladesh. Mohammed Shami, stepping in as his replacement, capitalized on the chance and finished the competition as the highest wicket-taker.

In a conversation with PTI following the 2024 Women's Premier League auction, Shah mentioned that Hardik could possibly come back in T20Is against Afghanistan in January.

“Hardik Pandya could be fit for the Afghanistan T20 series in January.”

The three-match T20I series against Afghanistan holds importance as it signifies India's final stint in the shortest format before the upcoming T20 World Cup in June 2024.

Following the Afghanistan series, India's cricket calendar includes a five-match Test series against England, followed by a two-month stint in the Indian Premier League.

Reports suggest that the T20 World Cup selection for several key Indian players, including Virat Kohli, may be determined by their performances in the forthcoming IPL.
