'Why Blame Babar Azam Only?'- Javed Miandad On Pakistan's Asia Cup Debacle

Pakistan's poor showing in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023 has opened a pandora's box on social media regarding in-fights and disagreements between players and captain Babar Azam.

Led by Azam, Pakistan was knocked out of the competition from the Super 4 stage after losing crucial ties against India and Sri Lanka, respectively. Pakistan's most consistent and currently the No.1 ODI batter, Azam, has often been called out for poor leadership skills on the field.

However, the star batter has found support in former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad.

Speaking at the 40's Global Cricket Event, Miandad explained that pinning the blame on just Azam is not fair and that Pakistan failed as a unit.

As quoted by India Today, the 1992 World Cup-winning player also urged Pakistan players not to get overwhelmed by the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India psychologically.

Here's what Miandad said

"Why blame Babar Azam only when the rest of the team didn't perform as well in the Asia Cup matches against India and Sri Lanka. Look our team is not as bad as it played in the Asia Cup. It has plenty of potential to do well in the World Cup. The only thing is how quickly our players cope and adjust to playing in Indian conditions before big crowds and in a country where they will encounter some hostility."

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq also expressed similar views and stated that Azam cannot perform every time and that the team needs to gel and put in a collective effort.

"Don't just expect Babar to perform every time. This is not possible. This team has been successful as a collective unit and they must remember that even in India. "Now is not the time to talk about his captaincy. He is someone who can be relied upon in the World Cup as a captain and batsman."

Pakistan will begin their World Cup 2023 campaign on October 6 against the Netherlands.
