The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is just around the corner, and India are gearing up to face a potent opponent in Australia in a three-ODI series, which will provide a better insight into the team's preparation.

In a surprise decision, selectors recalled off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the ODI setup, having last played in 2022, spicing things ahead of the marquee event.

Ashwin, known for his dedication and professionalism, turned up for Mylapore Recreational Club A on Tuesday in the TNCA-run VAP Trophy despite being selected for India.

Playing against Young Stars Cricket Club at SSN ground, the 37-year-old dished out an economical spell, discarding any talks about him being rusty in the 50-overs format. As reported by PTI, Ashwin finished his full 10-overs quota, picked one wicket, gave away 30 runs, and scored 12 off 17.

MRCA won the encounter by 28 runs, as Young Stars bundled for 257 in pursuit of 286. Mylapore's head coach, Guru Kedarnath, was all praises for Ashwin, who showcased his class once again.

Here's what Kedarnath said

“He is a world-class player; no questions about it. The control he had in today’s tie was absolutely fantastic.”

India's leading Test wicket-taker has played just two ODIs in the last six years and was a member of World Cup and Champions Trophy campaigns in 2011 and 2013. Overall, in 111 matches for India, Ashwin has picked up 151 wickets.

The three-match ODI series starts on September 22 in Mohali.
