To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL auction will take place in Dubai on Tuesday. The ten IPL franchises will look forward to making the most of their remaining budget by filling the voids in their squad before the upcoming season of the tournament.
Talking about Chennai Super Kings, the MS Dhoni-led outfit released eight players, including four pacers, as they finalised their retention list on the 28th of November. So, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra expects them to spend millions on a marquee fast bowler.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra reckoned that CSK could bid till INR 14 Crores for ace South African speedster Gerald Coetzee.
"They can buy fast bowlers. The first name that comes to my mind will come in their mind as well because he is a part of the Jo'burg Super Kings. The guy's name is Gerald Coetzee. If they wish to have him, they can even spend 10-14 crore rupees on him."
The former KKR batter also opined that the Yellow Army could buy Indian middle order batters like Manish Pandey and Karun Nair besides explosive local finisher Shahrukh Khan, who was released by Punjab Kings.
"They have a lot of money and they need an Indian batter. Considering their track record, they might say - 'Aa ja bhai Pandey', that MS Dhoni can get the underperforming Manish Pandey to deliver, or else they can take Karun Nair as well."
"There is a Chennai boy who can come in this team. He is Shahrukh Khan. I feel Delhi (Capitals) will try to spend a lot of money to acquire him and Chennai can also do that. However, they are not very gung-ho on this, they don't get obsessed that they need a Chennai boy."
The IPL mini-auction starts at 2.30 PM IST on Tuesday and will be streamed live on Jio Cinema and Sports18.
