Since the earliest days of cricket, Australia has never felt short of cricket talent, and Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning captain, Aaron Finch, is a forever shining star of the nation. Regarded as one of the finest in the shortest format, his remarkable T20 stats speak volumes of his legacy.

Apart from the international stage, he showcased his excellence in the franchise leagues, too. In a recent chat, he admitted the Indian Premier League is the toughest T20 competition, even more challenging than captaining Australia.

Finch Reveals Toughest T20 Challenge

As the Australian captain has carved their own legacy, Aaron Finch’s feats remained iconic as the Aussie skipper led the nation to their first-ever T20 World Cup triumph in 2021. Putting this stat aside, the Aussie batter crafted his resilience in the shortest format, even in the T20 leagues worldwide.

Finch has also graced the IPL stage. Making his debut in 2010, the former Australian skipper played for nine teams and also led the Pune Warriors. In a chat with The Cricket Monthly, the former Aussie skipper called the IPL the toughest T20 league to captain.

“IPL was probably the hardest, because you’re coming together for a short period of time. At Pune Warriors, I came in as a replacement player and then two or three games later, I was captain. I just didn’t have the time to get to know everybody in the squad, which is really difficult,” he said.

“Captaining Australia, you’ve got some of the best players in the world all the time, so my job was pretty easy there. Everyone knows what they’re trying to do. I wasn’t as good in the IPL as I was playing for the Renegades or for Australia. At times, the pressure of trying too much and trying to force it a little bit much was there,” he added.

Representing nine IPL franchises across his 12-year-long career, Aaron Finch played 92 matches and scored 2091 runs with an average of 25.19, along with 15 half-centuries. After bidding farewell to the league as a player, he began a fresh chapter behind the mic, lighting up IPL 2025 with his witty commentary.
