In the ongoing edition of the IPL, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have come out in a whole new form. Once criticized for letting almost-won games slip away, they've flipped the script with fearless cricket. They scripted their sixth consecutive away win in the last clash against the Delhi Capitals.
In the last clash, King Kohli dazzled with another thrilling knock and played a crucial role in securing the victory. After the thrilling chase, he shared his thoughts on the team's brilliant pursuit, giving a glimpse into the mindset behind their triumph.
Kohli’s Strategy Behind The Chase
When there's a chase, the Chase Master never disappoints, and Kohli proved why he owns the title. While chasing the 163-run target, RCB faced some early setbacks, losing 3 wickets in just 26 runs. But after that, Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya’s outstanding partnership sealed the win.
While Krunal Pandya played a fiery innings of 73 runs in 47 balls, Kohli played an anchored innings of 51 runs in 47 balls. After sealing the win, Kohli opened up about the strategy that powered their comeback.
“It was a top win, especially looking at the surface. This wicket played very differently to the other games. Whenever there is a chase on I keep checking with the dugout if we are on course, what is my role, etc. Krunal.. today was his day. We were waiting for him to come into the tournament with the bat. Who are the bowlers to target. I try and ensure I don't stop my singles and doubles and combine with the occasional boundary,” Kohli said.
What's Special About The Ongoing Season?
RCB has been a powerhouse from the very beginning of this season. With seven wins in ten games, they sit proudly at the top of the table. Their dominance doesn’t end there, as Hazlewood is holding the purple cap, and Virat Kohli is holding the orange cap. This year, RCB’s squad has some firepower as Kohli praised the team’s strength and spirit after their latest triumph.
“This year, you can't just come out and hit; you have to assess, understand the conditions, and then plan accordingly. We have communicated beautifully as a team in the batting, and that's the reason we have 7 wins out of 10. It's looking good for us. We have Romario (Shepherd) after Tim (David) as well for extra added power,” Kohli said.
“That firepower at the back end definitely helps. Hazlewood and Bhuvi are world-class bowlers. There's a reason why he has the Purple Cap on his head. Krunal bowled well too. Don't forget that Suyash can be the dark horse as well. He may not have got the wickets, but he has been good,” Kohli added.
After a thrilling win over the Delhi Capitals, RCB have already collected 14 points and are eagerly moving towards the playoff race. Now, they are all set to face the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming clash, aiming to grab 16 points and tighten their grip on a playoff spot.
