The in-form Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel recently made it to the headlines with a blistering 31-ball century against Services in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26. He played an unbeaten knock of 119 runs off just 37 balls with 12 fours and 10 massive sixes.

Patel is set to feature for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026. His current form is going to be a big positive for the five-time IPL champions while eyeing their record-extending sixth IPL title.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat skipper in SMAT, also opened up his feelings of being in CSK and playing under the legendary leadership of MS Dhoni. Patel also spoke about how ‘success’ is defined in the CSK camp.

“When you're in CSK or Dhoni sir's team, the definition of success and failure changes for you, just going out there and scoring runs isn't success. If I'm putting in my best efforts honestly, that is also success. I learned to believe in myself while at CSK. It sounds simple, but now I truly trust every shot I play more than ever before,” said Patel during an exclusive conversation with ESPNcricinfo

"I want to play too" - Urvil on 'playing for India'

Furthermore, the 27-year-old also expressed his feelings on being asked about ‘playing for India’. He also added about the pressure that grabs a player if he constantly keeps thinking about the same thing.

“It's an easy answer for any cricketer to say they want to play for their country. I want to play too, but thinking about it every day can add extra pressure. After being part of two big teams in the IPL, I understood that there's a process to follow to achieve something,” he said.

“For example, I wanted to do well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But I wasn't putting any pressure on myself that I had to do well. To perform well at this stage, I've been working hard for the last two-three months. I've been working on each shot and identifying my mistakes,” he added later.

Notably, Urvil Patel could be a good choice as a wicketkeeper-batter for CSK in future in the absence of MS Dhoni. However, he might also have to wait as the ex-Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has also been roped in by CSK for the tournament's upcoming edition.
