It has been an interesting couple of months for India's Ishan Kishan. Once touted to be the next big thing in Indian cricket, Kishan was surprisingly dropped from BCCI's central contract, alongside Shreyas Iyer.

During the period, he took some time off from the game and missed the home series against England, which the Indian team wom 4-1. The southpaw was criticised for taking a break by a small section of cricket fans, but it seems that the time off has helped Kishan become a better player.

Speaking tp Suryakumar Yadav after a thrilling win against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kishan reflected on the time away from the game and talked about the learnings, and things which helped him become stronger.

Here's what Kishan said:

“When we play regularly, we tend to forget our bases, the small things that are important. We just keep on playing with the same flow, but when you take some time off you realise a lot of things, and those small things that are important that come into perspective,” Kishan said.

He further added: “I was talking to HP [Hardik Pandya] bhai the other day and he said, always batting in 6th gear is not important. When I was with the Indian team, many people, including you, told me to rotate the strike, and I realised the bowlers are not always sure whether you are going for the big hit every time or you are trying to go for the singles, so these small things I have work on a lot and trying to put that it into practice in the game as well,” he added.

So far, Kishan has had an interesting IPL 2024. He started off with a duck against the Gujarat Titans, but came back strongly with scores of 34, 16, 42 and most recently, a 34-ball 69 against the RCB bowling attack.
