India, once a fortress in Test cricket and conquerors of foreign soil, now finds itself struggling to even salvage a match at home. After a harsh defeat in the first Test match against South Africa, Guwahati has emerged as the new nightmare.
Since the beginning, the Protea bowlers have haunted the Indian batting lineup and sparked criticism. Adding to this, Virat Kohli’s brother, Vikas Kohli, took a sarcastic jab at head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Kohli’s brother drops a social media bomb
After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepped away from India’s Test side, the Men in Blue witnessed a new low. There was a time when India was a fireball wrapped in whites; now they are looking forward just to save a match, being far away from dominance. After Gambhir took charge, the Test collapse is now grabbing attention.
From a whitewash against New Zealand at home to four defeats in six home Tests, questions shots about Gambhir’s role in the team. As the storms are already on, Virat Kohli’s brother Vikas Kohli added more fuel into it. His sarcastic jab at unnecessary interference with the team grabbed attention. Fans are assuming it was pointing at Gautam Gambhir.
“There was a time that we played to win even in overseas conditions. Now we are playing to save the match. even in India..This is what happens when u try to boss around and change things unnecessary which were not broken,” he wrote on social media.
Proteas dominate India in their own backyard
After a bizarre outing in the Eden Gardens, Team India hoped for a turnaround in Guwahati, and it turned out to be even more disappointing. While bowling first, the Indian bowlers faced a nightmare as the Protea batters showcased their excellence. As the Men in Blue struggled, South Africa put on a total of 489 runs.
Coming to bat, India faced a collapse that they would have never imagined. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar, no other batter was able to face the lethal Protea bowling as they ended their innings in just 201 runs. Chasing a colossal 549, India’s hopes take another hit as Jaiswal and KL Rahul fall early, leaving the team reeling at 27/2.
Trailing by 522, Team India’s struggle on their home soil is sparking criticism. Struggles against spin highlight shaky player selections, and a string of baffling decisions has fans openly questioning Gambhir’s future as Test coach.
