'When Pakistan Need You...,' Imad Wasim Ready To Make U-Turn On Retirement

Two months after shocking the Pakistan cricket fraternity with a premature retirement from international cricket, spin allrounder Imad Wasim has suggested his days under the sun for the senior national side may not be entirely over.

Imad hinted at a potential retirement u-turn if provided specific conditions by the team management and the selectors as the cricketer said he is open to taking greater responsibility if given clarity and assurance by the decision-makers.

The 35-year-old said it need not necessarily be captaincy or vice-captaincy, but if required to play a prominent role at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean & USA, he would be keen on being involved for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.

"Yeah, you never know. But I told you, like, the decision I took, I was 100% in it and at the end it was my decision. But you never know when Pakistan need you, you have to do something about it," Imad was quoted as saying by 'Cricket Pakistan'

Imad Hints At Retirement Reversal

Imad, who has represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is and last turned out for the side back in April 2023, said his desires with the national side go beyond a designated leadership post. The veteran cricketer insisted he wants to shape the direction and the future of Pakistan team.

"The thing is what I want to know, it's about the clarity. It's about giving me responsibility, not as a captain but as a senior player, giving me responsibility to take the team where I want to take or where the group of senior players want to take."

"So I want Pakistan to play the right cricket, right combination, right type of cricket, right style of cricket, and that's about it," Imad added.

Notably, Imad's retirement came at a time when his absence from the domestic List A competition was widely criticised. Not picked in Pakistan's 50-over outfit for the 2023 World Cup in India, the cricketer was instead seen appearing as a guest on cricket shows and even gave skipper Babar Azam and his men flak over their lacklustre campaign.
