Prominent all-rounder, Imad Wasim, recently shed light on a potentially worrisome trend concerning Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, and his dismal performances in high-stakes matches. Wasim pointed to a growing pattern where Babar has been unable to make a notable difference in decisive games.

Addressing a local media outlet, Wasim highlighted that while international competitions present their challenges, they also serve as the ultimate platform for players to solidify their legacy. He was quick to clarify that his remarks weren't meant to undermine Babar but to highlight a pattern worth addressing for the team's betterment.

The southpaw pointed out that the last memorable performance from Babar was during the 2019 World Cup, where he scored a century against New Zealand at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Since then, according to Wasim, the star batsman has failed to recreate such significant match-winning contributions.

“At the world stage there is pressure, but it is also the place where you prove your worth. I think the last time Babar performed in a big match was against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, when he scored a century. But after that, he is yet to win a big match for Pakistan. This is not criticism but a fact,” said Wasim.

Such concerns came into sharper focus following Pakistan's recent loss against Australia in the World Cup 2023. Hosted at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on October 20, Babar's brief stint at the crease yielded just 18 runs from 14 balls before his dismissal by Adam Zampa. The team subsequently faced a 62-run defeat.
