Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli drew curtains and retired from the shortest format of the game after India won the T20 World Cup 2024 against South Africa. Now, the young Indian cricket team is all set to take the ground against Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series.

Ahead of this series, Indian captain Shubman Gill appreciated the efforts of the two Indian veterans and called them his idols. He also mentioned that it is difficult to replicate the legacy of the two players.

The players finished as the top two scorers of the format, helping India register several memorable wins over the years.

“Obviously there is pressure. But what they've achieved or what they did for India...they are both idols and legends of Indian cricket. But as players and the team the things we want to achieve, there is definitely pressure about that," he said.

In the recent series against Zimbabwe, Gill was appointed as the captain and also stated that he would open with Abhishek Sharma in the first T20 encounter on July 6. Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad is all set to take up the number third spot.

Meanwhile, it is important to note that VVS Laxman has travelled with the young team after Rahul Dravid's tenure as India's coach came to an end after the T20 World Cup
