Royal Challengers Bengaluru, stand on the brink of history, aiming for their maiden IPL title as they stormed into the 2025 final after an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur.
As the final approaches, light-hearted banter from former England captains Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton has gone viral. They jested about the potential reaction of RCB's batting coach, Dinesh Karthik, should the franchise finally end its long trophy drought.
Nasser, Mike Leg Pulls Karthik With Light Banter
Speaking on Sky Sports Podcast, Nasser Hussain poked fun at Dinesh Karthik, a former RCB player and now, the batting coach, implying Karthik's overwhelming reaction if RCB lifts the trophy.
“RCB have got through to the finals. If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable. One season as coach/mentor, and he’s won it,” Hussain stated.
Atherton joined in, adding a humorous comparison, as quoted by TOI, “He’s unbearable at the best of times, he’s going to be doubly unbearable. He’ll be like John Terry, at the front of the RCB trophy presentation, holding it there with Virat Kohli."
He referenced the iconic image of the former Chelsea captain celebrating in full kit after their 2012 Champions League win, despite being suspended for the final.
Karthik Reacts To The Comments
Karthik, never one to shy away, responded swiftly on social media. Addressing the viral clip of the banter, he tweeted simply, “This podcast needs some young energy.”
Nevertheless, Dinesh Karthik's impact was noted even during the league stage, with players like Jitesh Sharma crediting him for improvements in their game. As RCB prepares for their shot at glory, Karthik's presence, and the playful chatter surrounding him, add another layer to their historic quest.
