Veteran Sri Lankan cricketer Angelo Mathews has revealed that he will retire from white-ball cricket after the 2026 T20 World Cup edition. Mathews Confirms White-Ball Retirement After 2026 World Cup

The talismanic all-rounder recently opened up on his white-ball retirement. Speaking to the media ahead of his last Test, Angelo Mathews stated that he would hang up his boots from white-ball cricket after the 2026 T20 World Cup in India.

The Sri Lankan great disclosed that he would try his best to power the Island Nation to its second T20 World Cup title and sign off from all formats on a triumphant note.

"There are six more months until the next T20 World Cup, and I'll give it a try depending on what my body tells me. I hope to retire from white-ball cricket at that World Cup. If we can win another World Cup, I'll try to contribute toward that. So I'll do everything I can to improve my fitness and skills over the next six months," Angelo Mathews was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Despite struggling with multiple injury setbacks of late, Mathews has been an absolute match-winner for Sri Lanka across formats. Besides scoring 1416 T20I runs, the 38-year-old cricketer has scalped 45 wickets in the format with his gentle medium-pace bowling.

Moreover, he has also struck 5916 runs across 226 ODIs while bagging 126 wickets in 163 innings in the 50-over format.

The ongoing Galle Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will mark the final Test appearance of Mathews. The ace cricketer received a guard of honour from his teammates and will be keen to make his mark in his last outing for Sri Lanka in whites.
