Former Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq has shared a special message for India and Pakistan ahead of their highly anticipated clash at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on October 14.

Speaking exclusively to Sportstar, Saqlain, who has experienced the intensity of India-Pakistan matches as both a player and coach, advised both teams to enjoy the game without being overly concerned about the result.

In his conversation with Sportstar, Saqlain highlighted the pressure and stakes associated with this high-voltage encounter. Having served as the head coach of the Pakistan team in the T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022, he recalled having extensive discussions with players before India-Pakistan matches to help them stay composed.

Saqlain's message to the teams is to "go out there and enjoy your game." He cited the 2021 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan wasn't favored to win against India, but he encouraged the team to believe in their skills and not be swayed by external expectations.

"Go out there and enjoy your game. When we played in the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, not many expected us to win as India was clearly the favourite. But I told the team not to think about what the world believes and back their skills,”  Saqlain told Sportstar.

Stage is set for India-Pakistan

The ODI World Cup 2023 is set to come alive with the mega-clash between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14. This showdown between the old rivals will be the highlight of the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup. Both teams have made an impressive start to the tournament, winning their first two matches.

India's comprehensive victories against Australia and Afghanistan have sent a strong message to other teams. In contrast, Pakistan, known historically for their potent bowling attacks, have had to rely on their batting for both of their wins. This unexpected shift in Pakistan's cricketing identity has raised questions about the team's performance.

The India-Pakistan match promises to be a thrilling contest, and Saqlain's message emphasizes the significance of savoring the game itself, regardless of the outcome.
