Pakistan's preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 are not going according to plan, as the Babar Azam-led side have lost both their warm-ups quite comprehensively.

The team under Azam has been playing good cricket for the past few years, and have played the final of T20 WC 2022 Down Under, showing their true potential. Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden, who has worked with Pakistan in stints during ICC T20 WC 2021 and 2022, lauded their cricket approach.

Responding to a query from former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja, speaking on commentary during Pakistan's second warm-up against Australia, Hayden highlighted religion as one of the connecting factors in this current side.

Hayden worked batting consultant in 2021 and then donned the hat of a mentor in 2022.

Here's what Hayden said

"Well it's very focused around Islam, which is the central and core thing to this playing unit. And that principle and the way of life leads to great discipline, which I greatly admire. After all, cricket is very much a discipline as well. You have to be committed. You have to be invested, and you have to be consistent."

With Hayden in the support staff, Pakistan reached the semi-final of the T20 WC 2021 in UAE, and then bettered their position reaching the final in the 2022 edition. Pakistan will commence its World Cup 2023 campaign against the Netherlands on October 6.
