The Indian women’s cricket team is about to launch its all-format home series against South Africa. A day prior to the first ODI match at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, head coach and former first-class cricketer Amol Muzumdar reassured fans that the Indian women’s team will be prepared for this year’s 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup by the time of the 2024 Asia Cup in July in Sri Lanka.

Team India, under the leadership of charismatic skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, recently outclassed Bangladesh at Sylhet in May to bag their five-match series by a 5-0 margin.

Women’s coach on T20 World Cup preparations

Indian women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar recently acknowledged the team’s T20 World Cup-friendly schedule, considering their all-format home series against South Africa will conclude with a set of three T20I matches in Chennai.

The ‘Women in Blue’ will subsequently travel to Sri Lanka for a week in July for the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup, which itself serves as a precursor for this year’s 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in October. Speaking about team’s preparation for the World Cup, coach Muzumdar reassured fans that his playing group will be groomed for the showpiece event by the time of the launch of Asia Cup itself.

While speaking to the reporters at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Indian head coach said:

“We are going to Asia Cup, which is again T20Is. So, by Asia Cup, we should be ready for the World Cup. I think it is a very well-thought-out series and really looking forward to it.”

The 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup will launch in Sri Lanka on July 19, i.e., just 10 days after the conclusion of India’s all-format home series against South Africa.

At the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, Team India is paired with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Group A.

As of now, Harmanpreet Kaur and co. are gearing up to face South Africa in the first of their three-match ODI series in Bengaluru. The first match is scheduled to be played on June 16.
