Unbeaten India will take on Canada in match number 33 of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup on June 15. The much-awaited contest, set to be staged at Lauderhill’s Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, marks the final league outing for both sides this competition.

The ‘Men in Blue’ have already qualified for the Super Eight stage of the tournament, having defeated Ireland, Pakistan and USA in their first three league fixtures with convincing margins. Canada, on the other hand, lost to Pakistan and USA but managed to upstage Ireland on June 7.

Indian captain and legendary opening batter Rohit Sharma has the tendency of coming up short against left-arm seam bowlers from time to time. 

In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 itself, Sharma was dismissed by Pakistan’s left-armer Shaheen Afridi as well as by USA’s opening bowler Saurabh Netravalkar early in the innings.

During India’s upcoming match against Canada, the veteran opening batter will come up against left-arm fast bowler Kaleem Sana in the first over itself. 

While Sana has picked up just one wicket so far in the tournament, he remains Canada’s best bet for toppling Indian captain Rohit Sharma early in the game.

Canada’s middle-order batter Nicholas Kirton has already punched out scores of 51 and 49 against USA and Ireland respectively this T20 World Cup 2024. Known for his counterattacking approach in the middle overs, Kirton will likely come up against India’s in-form fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah at some stage of the innings.

Bumrah himself has delivered successive match-winning spells for India against Ireland and Pakistan at New York. For Saturday’s big match between the two nations, Bumrah’s potential faceoff with Kirton remains one of the biggest draws to watch out for.


Virat Kohli vs Jeremy Gordon

With scores of 1, 4 and 0 against Ireland, Pakistan and USA respectively, India’s experimental opener Virat Kohli will be aiming to go big against Canada in a bid to finish the opening round on a confident note.

However, he might once again find it difficult to do so as he will face Canadian opening fast bowler Jeremy Gordon. The 37-year-old Canada speedster picked up match-winning figures of 2-16 against Ireland, and got rid of dashing Pakistani batter Fakhar Zaman at New York. 

Gordon’s imminent faceoff against Virat Kohli and its outcome will be expected to hold much weight in setting the tone early for either team.
