The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) has come to an end, with the Kolkata Knight Riders crowned the champions a third time. While we have seen some stellar performances in the tournament, there were some stalwarts who failed to deliver throughout the tournament.

Here is a look at a team of players who failed to deliver as expected.

Openers

Quinton de Kock (wk) (LSG) ✈️

Matches - 11 Runs - 250 Average - 22.72 Strike Rate - 134.40

There were a lot of expectations around Quinton de Kock ahead of the IPL 2024. LSG would have planned their campaign around QDK performing alongside KL Rahul and giving the team some solid starts. However, de Kock had a terrible time in the tournament and failed to leave any impact as an opener.

Ajinkya Rahane (CSK)

Matches - 13 Runs - 242 Average - 20.16 Strike Rate - 123.46

The CSK management showed much faith in Ajinkya Rahane in IPL 2024. They tried to use him as an opener and the top-order batter. However, Rahane failed to deliver, which was one of the main reasons why the CSK batting looked fragile at the top.

Middle Order

Devudutt Padikkal (LSG)

Matches - 7 Runs - 38 Average - 5.42 Strike Rate - 71.69

The Indian left-handed batter made his international debut in the England series. It looked like Devudutt Padikkal would play a significant role in the top-order for LSG. However, the southpaw had a terrible time in the tournament and failed to make any kind of impression with the bat.

Glenn Maxwell (RCB) ✈️

Matches - 10 Runs - 42 Average - 5.77 Strike Rate - 120.93

Before the tournament started, there were many expectations around the Australian star, Glenn Maxwell. He had a stellar World Cup 2023 with the bat; however, IPL 2024 was a dismal season for him. Even though he made small contributions with the ball, the expected impact with the bat never came.

Deepak Hooda (LSG)

Matches - 11 Runs - 145 Average - 18.12 Strike Rate - 138.09

Lucknow Super Giants used Deepak Hooda in the middle order to solidify their batting line-up. However, barring one good knock, Hooda failed to deliver.

Mahipal Lomror (RCB)

Matches - 10 Runs  - 125 Average - 15.62 Strike Rate - 183.82

The India middle-order batter made a promising start to the tournament. However, after a first couple of matches Lomror failed to deliver the bat.

Hardik Pandya (MI) (c)

Matches - 14 Runs - 216 Average - 18.00 Strike Rate - 143.04 Wickets - 11 Economy Rate - 10.75

There were many expectations pinned on Hardik Pandya after he took up the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024. However, Hardik Pandya failed to deliver in either of his trades or as a team leader.

Bowlers

Rashid Khan (GT) ✈️

Matches - 12 Wickets - 10 Bowling Average - 36.70 Economy Rate - 8.40 Runs Scored - 102 Batting Average - 20.40

The Afghan supertstar had a pretty average outing in IPL 2024. It has been one of Rashid Khan's worst seasons with the ball. He failed to pick up wickets in the middle overs, which is his biggest strength, and the impact of his below-average displays was evident in GT's overall performance.

Shardul Thakur (CSK)

Matches - 9 Wickets - 5 Bowling Average - 61.80 Economy Rate - 9.75

CSK invested a lot to bring Shardul Thakur back into their team. The expectation was that he will deliver with the ball and also make some valuable contributions with the ball. However, Thakur failed to live up to the expectations.

Ravi Bishnoi (LSG)

Matches - 14 Wickets - 10 Bowling Average - 38.30 Economy Rate - 8.77

The Indian leg-spinner has always been a major part of the LSG bowling attack. Ravi Bishnoi can pick up wickets and be economical in the middle overs giving his team an advantage over the opposition. However, the IPL 2024 season has been below average for him.

Anrich Nortje (DC) ✈️

Matches - 6 Wickets - 7 Bowling Average - 42.00 Economy Rate - 13.36

The South African pacer was to lead the DC bowling attack in the tournament. However, Anrich Nortje found no rhythm with the ball. He was neither able to pick up wickets nor keep it economical.
