Sanju Samson was at the peak of his powers on Friday as he smashed back-to-back T20I hundreds, this time against the South African side to stake his claim at the top of the order. The star player smashed 107 off 50 balls as India won the first T20I, rather comfortably.

The visitors posted 202, while batting first and won the game by 61 runs as the Proteas were not in the contest and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Last month, Samson scored a T20I ton against Bangladesh, and he followed it up with yet another breathtaking assault as the home side had no answer to his onslaught. Samson's remarkable innings included 7 fours and 10 sixes.

During the course of his knock, Samson broke several records and one of them included beating MS Dhoni to become the 7th fastest Indian to 7,000 T20 runs. While MS Dhoni achieved the milestone in 305 innings, Samson only took 269 innings to0 achieve the milestone. KL Rahul tops the list as the batter achieved the feat in just 197 innings.

Samson gets emotional after the match

Samson made his T20I debut in 2015, and it took him almost 10-years to cement his place in the T20I side. After the game, Samson reflected on his monumental knock and got emotional while talking about it.

“If I think a lot I will get emotional. I waited for this moment for 10 years, I’m very happy, grateful and blessed. But I would like to keep my feet on the ground, be in the moment and enjoy."

The second T20I of the series will take place on Sunday and India will hope that Samson continues his dream run as India eye a series win.
