In a significant development, Cricket South Africa has finalised its 15-member men's squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India next month. In a massive setback, the Proteas will miss the services of ace pacer Anrich Nortje, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury.

Promising pacer Lizaad Williams has replaced Nortje in the squad, while veteran all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo has been called up as a replacement for Sisanda Magala, who will also miss the showpiece event due to injury.

In the absence of Nortje, Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the Proteas pace battery alongside Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen.

Meanwhile, Keshav Maharaj will lead the spin bowling unit along with wily left-arm leg spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.

Talking about South Africa’s batting unit, Quinton de Kock, Temba Bavuma will open, with Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller slotted in the middle order. Jansen will be the primary bowling all-rounder, with Phehlukwayo set to play as his deputy.
