Pakistan survived an early elimination in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 11 at Nassau County Stadium as they defeated Canada by 7 wickets with 15 balls spare in match 20. Babar Azam reflected on the game, calling it a two-paced wicket.

Asking Canada to bat first, Pakistan restricted Canada to just 106/7 in the 20 overs, Mohammad Amir leading them with 2/13 in his 4. The batting unit chased the total comfortably, with Mohammad Rizwan and Babar scoring run-a-ball 53* and 33 respectively.

Reflecting on the game, Babar revealed their original plan of chasing it down within 14 overs for the net run rate boost.

"Good for us as we needed this win. I think we started well with the ball in the powerplay. [On NRR] We had planned to chase down this total in 13-14 overs but, to be honest, the ball was not coming properly in the powerplay," said the Pakistan skipper.

On the wicket which took them deep into a rather small run-chase, their approach in the next match and his dismissal,

"It was a two-paced wicket so it took a little time for us to settle on the crease. We will try to play with the same mindset in the next game. The pitch in Florida is much better from this venue. I got out twice playing the same shot so, I was a bit angry." Babar Azam concluded.

The Asian side will be facing Ireland in their final group stage at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium, Lauderhill Florida on June 16 and will hope for the USA to lose both of their remaining games against India and Ireland to make it to the Super Eights on the basis of net run rate.
