Namibia’s David W. got the better of Australian David W. in a lop-sided Group B match of the 2024 T20 World Cup at North Sound. The incident occurred during the second over of the Australian innings while chasing a meagre target of 73 against Scotland.

David Warner, who clattered back-to-back boundaries and a huge six in the first three balls of the over, decided to go downtown in the fourth delivery only to be holed out by Ruben Trumpelmann at mid-off off the bowling of Namibian all-rounder David Wiese.

David Wiese gets Warner early in Australian innings

David Warner crunched a boundary off Namibian new-ball fast bowler Ruben Trumpelmann through the left of extra cover to get going in the first over of the innings itself. The following over, the legendary Australian opener cracked two more boundaries and a six in the first three balls, this time taking Namibian all-rounder David Wiese to the cleaners and making short work of an already-easy target for his side.

However, the very next ball, Wiese got the better of Warner when the Australian opener managed to slice the ball up while attempting to go downtown again. He was fittingly caught by Trumpelmann at mid-off as the two Namibian new-ball speedsters teamed up to account for the early exit of the rampaging opener.

Regardless of David Warner’s dismissal, Australia cruised to an easy nine-wicket victory over Namibia by mowing down their 73-run task in just 5.4 overs.

Travis Head top-scored in the innings through an unbeaten 17-ball 34 while captain Mitchell Marsh walloped 18* runs from just nine balls.
