With the ODI series between India Women and England Women hanging in the balance, the hosts have made a surprise move ahead of the third and final game. All-rounder Alice Capsey has been released from the England squad and will return to play for Surrey in the Women’s One-Day Cup.
England Let Go Of Alice Capsey Before Must-Win Clash Against India
The ENG-W vs IND-W series decider is set to go down at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday, July 22 but Capsey won’t be part of it. While fans were hoping to see Capsey make the XI at some point in the ODI series, the youngster remained on the sidelines for the first two matches.
With the series locked at 1-1 and a must-win clash on the cards, the team management has opted to release her to play for Surrey, who are gearing up to take on Hampshire Women in Match 35 of the ECB Women’s One Day Cup on Thursday, July 24 at Guildford Bason.
Alice Capsey has been a key figure in England’s white-ball setup but her lack of match-time in this series likely prompted the move to let her get game time elsewhere. The 20-year-old has played 26 ODIs, scoring 343 runs and picking up 12 wickets and she will now look to make a mark in domestic colours.
Pride On The Line For England Women In The Final ODI
Make no mistake, this third ODI is more than just another game. It’s about redemption for England, especially after losing the five-match T20I series 3-2. Add to that the fact that they were whitewashed 3-0 by India in the last ODI series back in 2022 and the heat is well and truly on.
India took the first game in style, chasing down a 259-run target with four wickets in hand. England hit back in the second, winning by 8 wickets via the DLS method. Now, all roads lead to Chester-le-Street for the decider where both sides will go hell for leather to clinch the series.
India Women Aim To Finish Strong
For Harmanpreet Kaur's team, the goal is simple: keep the foot on the gas. With form, confidence and recent head-to-head records in their favour, India Women will want to put the hammer down and take the trophy home.
