In the first T20I played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh pipped Pakistan by seven wickets, courtesy of an outstanding effort from Parvez Hossain Emon, who scored 56* with the bat. With the ball, Bangladesh were brilliant with Taskin Ahmed picking three wickets, and Mustafizur Rahman grabbing two to help bowl Pakistan out for 110.
Here, we take a look at the highlights of the first T20I between BAN vs PAK, as it panned out at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on Sunday, July 20.
Fakhar Zaman Left In The Lurch As Pakistan Shot Out For 110
After winning the toss, the home side, Bangladesh, put Pakistan into bat. The visitors had a decent start with 18 runs until the opening batter Saim Ayub departed on the 11th delivery of the innings. The middle order failed badly, with Mohammad Haris (4), captain Salman Ali Agha (3), Hasan Nawaz (0), and Mohammad Nawaz (3) all putting pressure on Pakistan. Of the batters, Fakhar Zaman tried his level best and scored a gritty 44, but was unfortunately run out after a mix-up with Khushdil Shah, as Pakistan lost their sixth wicket for just 70 runs on the board after 11.3 overs.
Khushdil himself scored 18 off 23 deliveries, while Abbas Afridi's 22 off 24 deliveries couldn't help Pakistan much, as they could only manage 110 runs on the board after getting bowled out in just 19.3 overs, with Taskin Ahmed picking three wickets and Mustafizur Rahman grabbing two to his name in 4 overs after giving just six runs. Runs were hard to come by, and the pitch was slow and difficult for batting, as the ball was gripping into the surface, making life tougher for batters.
Emon's Gutsy Knock Takes Bangladesh Home Comfortably
Chasing 111 for victory, Bangladesh had a poor start, as they lost their first two wickets in the form of Tanzid Hasan Tamim and skipper Litton Das inside three overs with just seven on the board, as Bangladesh were looking to navigate home. Therefore, taking control of the situation, opener Parvez Hossain Emon batted beautifully to score a wonderful half-century.
While Towhid Hridoy did a decent job with the bat before getting bowled out by Abbas Afridi in the 13th over for 36. In the end, Jaker Ali played a knock of 15*, alongside Emon (56*), to help Bangladesh acquire victory in 15.3 overs, as they chased down 111 with 4.3 overs and seven wickets to spare. Salman Mirza picked up two wickets in his 3.3 overs, but couldn't help Pakistan further, as Bangladesh won comfortably in the first T20I to go 1-0 up in the series.
