After a long limited-over season, the red ball thrills are coming back to the Indian soil. The Indian side is set to play two Test series against the West Indies and South Africa. As the first Test match against South Africa will be played in Delhi, concerns have been raised over the pollution issue.

Delhi and pollution have become a national concern over the years. Amid the debate, BCCI’s secretary defended choosing Delhi for the first Test.

BCCI Secretary Stands Firm On Venue Choice

After a long time, Test cricket is coming back to Indian soil. As the home season is set to begin in October 2025, Team India is set to play two Test series against West Indies and South Africa. As Team India will face South Africa in November, the first Test match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Pollution has been the biggest concern for Delhi over the years. In 2017, the Test match against Sri Lanka sparked pollution controversy. Standing at this point, hosting a Test match can be challenging. As questions arose over BCCI’s decision, the Secretary revealed the reasoning behind their venue choice.

“We have considered all factors and have gone by the rotation policy after discussing it with everyone. The pollution issue doesn't happen every year.” Saikia said.

DDCA Is All Set To Host The Match

After a long time, the DDCA is set to host the Test match after a long time. In 2023, Delhi hosted the last Test match against Australia. As excitement builds, DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma assures that player safety and smooth management remain top priorities.

“The DDCA will take all measures possible to ensure players are comfortable when they play the Test match. Also, the Arun Jaitley Stadium is located in a relatively open area with more green area around,” he said

“So the air quality is better than in most other areas. Delhi had not been allotted a Test match for a while. The BCCI allotted us the game, so we have to go by the calendar. In November, the pollution, if at all, is less compared to December,” he added.

As the home season starts in October 2025, Team India is set to face South Africa in November 2025. The series will contain 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20Is. Fans are ready to enjoy some cricket thrills on home soil again.
