Over the years, Indian cricket has produced unbelievable cricket talents. From legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and MS Dhoni to modern greats like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, these stars have gifted fans countless unforgettable moments with their brilliance on the field.
But the Indian cricket team seems to be in safe hands as some of the youngsters are ready to take up the baton to carry forward the legacy. Leading the charge is Shubman Gill, whose exceptional talent has already set him apart. Now, his Gujarat Titans teammate Jos Buttler thinks he is the next poster boy of Indian cricket.
Buttler Backs Gill As India's Next Cricket Poster Boy
As Indian cricket has seen some unreal talents over the years, the transition from one generation to another has been smooth. From Gavaskar to Tendulkar and then Virat Kohli, Team India’s baton passed on correctly. After the Tendulkar era, Rohit Sharma also played a crucial role as the Ro-Ko duo took the Indian side to a new height.
The baton of Indian cricket is ready for a new hand, and Shubman Gill is at the forefront of this exciting transition. With unreal talent, he's often compared to Kohli. In 108 international games, he has amassed 5,246 runs with 14 centuries and 25 half-centuries. Even as captain, he has proven his mettle. Now, his IPL teammate, English star Jos Buttler, believes Gill is India’s next cricket poster boy.
“Look, Shubman is a star, isn’t he? He is going to be the poster boy of Indian cricket. I think he is a fantastic player. I have really enjoyed it. I think one of the great things with the IPL is that I have played against these guys. But now I get to watch him up close and be on my team.” Buttler said
“I really like watching him practice and learning things about how he goes about it. He has led the team brilliantly. He has got a nice relationship with the whole team. And he and the coach get on well. And yeah, he has got that passion on the field which I love and also a clear, calm head. So he is doing a fantastic job as leader.” Buttler added.
The Titans Eye Another Win
As Gill is back in his captaincy role in IPL, Gujarat’s start in the tournament was a little shaky as they faced an 11-run defeat against Punjab Kings. But Shubman Gill and Co. bounced back in their next match against the Mumbai Indians by defeating them by 36 runs.
In the next match, the Titans stole the show with their dominating performance over Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they defeated them by 8 wickets. Now sitting fourth on the points table, they gear up to face Sunrisers Hyderabad, determined to keep their winning streak alive.
