On May 1, Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced their eighth loss of the IPL 2025 season after a massive 100-run defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI). With this win, MI claimed their seventh victory overall and sixth win in a row, showing they are in great form at the right time.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians put up a huge score of 217/2. They played smart cricket, keeping wickets safe early on and then hitting big shots in the second half of their innings. In reply, RR couldn’t handle the pressure of chasing such a big target and their batting lineup collapsed.

Riyan Parag’s Straightforward Take

After the match, RR captain Riyan Parag admitted MI simply played better. As quoted by ESPN Cricinfo, he said:

"You've got to give credit to MI for the way they batted. They kept wickets."

He also added that a target of around 190-200 would’ve been more manageable.

"Yeah, 190-200 would have been ideal. We've been getting good starts. But it's up to the middle order - myself, Dhruv - to step up. We've done a lot of things right and wrong. A lot of mistakes and small errors. We want to focus on them, and focus on the good as well," he added.

Meanwhile, MI is looking dangerous now. After losing four of their first five matches, they’ve bounced back with six straight wins.

Rajasthan Royals Fail To Chase Against MI

Chasing 218, RR had a rough start. Opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out for zero in the first over. Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to go big but got out for 13 in the next over. Then, Nitish Rana also struggled and was dismissed for 9 runs.

Parag and Jurel tried to push the run rate but couldn’t last long. Parag was caught by Rohit Sharma, and on the very next ball, Shimron Hetmyer was also dismissed.

RR lost five wickets within the first six overs, finishing the powerplay at 62/5. Things got worse as Shubham Dubey, Dhruv Jurel, and others kept falling. Eventually, RR were all out for 117.

Karn Sharma and Trent Boult took three wickets each. Bumrah took two, while Hardik Pandya and Deepak Chahar picked one each.

With this loss, RR are now officially out of the playoff race, becoming the second team to be eliminated this season. They still have three games left, against KKR, CSK, and PBKS but those will now be about pride rather than qualification.
