Have Sanju Samson's RR Dug Their Own Graves By Letting Go Of Jos Buttler Ahead Of IPL 2025?

Jos Buttler is playing a game changing knock against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 14th match of the IPL 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. As RCB batted first in the game, they were restricted 169/8 at the end of the 20 overs.

In a tricky chase, it was essential for the Titans to get a good start. After the wicket of Shubman Gill early in the innings, it was even more important for Jos Buttler to stick around and lay the foundation for the team. The English player did what was required on the day and played a steady knock as per the demands of the day.

As Buttler was guiding the Titans towards the win, his ex-IPL team Rajasthan Royals would have repented their decision of releasing him. Here are three reasons it looks like a big mistake by the IPL 2008 champions.

1. Letting Go Of A Match Winner At The Top

Jos Buttler played some match winning for the Royals while he was a part of the squad. Even in IPL 2024, the English batter played a couple of brilliant knocks. Especially the KKR match in the last edition was a great example of how Jos Buttler can bring the best out of himself under pressure and take the team over the line.

Out of the three games that GT have played in IPL 2025, Buttler has played to impactful knocks. On the other hand, RR have struggled with the bat and this shows that they are missing the experience and cool head of Butter at the top.

2. Making Their Top Order Vulnerable

The opening pair of the Rajasthan Royals has struggled to get things going in IPL 2025. The instability at the top order has looked like their biggest problem and it has been one of the reasons behind the two matches that they have lost.

On the other hand, the presence of Jos Buttler at the top has given an added solidity to the GT batting line-up. So, by releasing the English keeper batter, it seems the Royals have compromised on a top order dependability.

3. Putting Yashasvi Jaiswal Under Pressure

Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal formed a very successful opening partnership for the Rajasthan Royals. The presence of Buttler allowed Jaiswal to bat with freedom and independence. But the absence of Buttler is putting the young southpaw under pressure and that is evident from the performance of Jaiswal. The Indian opener has not yet found form in the three games that he has batted in and has struggled to get into his rhythm.
