Pakistan A, under Mohammad Haris’ leadership, won the Emerging Asia Cup 2023 by defeating arch-rivals India A in the final last month. The win, however, received mixed response from fans within the cricketing fraternity. While some hailed the magnitude of victory, others criticised the Pakistan selection committee for selecting several senior players in the team for an emerging tournament.

Tayyab Tahir, who was ‘Player of the Match’ in the final, is 30 years old and has played international matches for Pakistan. Team’s opening batter Sahibzada Farhan, who scored 65 in the title clash, is also 27 years old who made his international debut back in 2018.

The India A side, on the other hand, featured no international experience and the team itself was led by Yash Dhull, a 20-year-old batting prodigy from Delhi.

Amidst much age-gap criticisms, Pakistan A skipper Mohammad Haris has called out the Indian team management, stating that no one asked them to select a young team for the tournament.

Pakistan A captain compares international experience with IPL

Pakistan A captain Mohammad Haris has finally broken his silence over their Emerging Asia Cup win in Sri Lanka. The 22-year-old leader, who played five ODIs and nine T20Is for Pakistan since his international debut last year, said that his ‘A’ team never asked their Indian counterparts to send ‘little kids’ to the tournament.

He also shrugged off any age-gap criticisms, stating that only a few members from his ‘A’ team have played a handful of international matches. Haris also stated that India A players, on the other hand, have much more playing experience through years of IPL participation. While speaking in a podcast, he said:

“People are saying that Pakistan sent a team with many seniors. We did not ask them to send little kids to the tournament. They say that we had international experience in our team. How much international matches have we played but? Saim has played 5, I have played 6. Those guys (Indian players) have played 260 IPL matches.”

Notably, India A defeated Pakistan A by eight wickets earlier in the tournament, before succumbing to scoreboard pressure in the final.

In the title clash, Yash Dhull and co. failed to chase down Pakistan’s 352, as their response was dusted out for 224 in 40 overs.
